Fan excitement is running high, especially after a hint in the latest trailer of Netflix's live-action suggests the imminent appearance of an honorary Straw Hat pirate. Although all eyes are on Lera Abova as Nico Robin, other members of Baroque Works managed to shock fans.
Fans have learned who will be playing the main characters introduced in One Piece Season 2, including Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday. The season also shared a sneak peek of computer-generated characters like Chopper and Laboon. However, one challenging character has intrigued fans since the first season of the live-action: the adorable super spot-billed duck Karoo.
Karoo Could Make His Live-Action Debut in One Piece Season 2
The unluckies in One Piece Season 2 trailer
For One Piece fans, it's important that the live-action adaptation does justice to beloved characters. Many were disappointed when Hatchi was cut from the first season due to the complexity and cost of creating him using CGI. While Chopper's live-action design is appropriate given his prominence in the story, many fans anticipated that other characters would inevitably be cut from the adaptation.
Initially, among the major characters requiring CGI, only Brogy, Laboon, and Chopper appeared in the trailers for One Piece Season 2. That's why the appearance of Karoo, Nefertari Vivi's duck companion, worried fans. However, the latest One Piece trailer confirmed the live-action debut of Mr. 13 and Miss Friday, also known as the Unluckies.
The Unluckies are not only difficult to bring to life, but they also had minor roles compared to the rest of the Baroque Works members. While Mr. 13 is the reason Crocodile knew the Straw Hats' faces, this could easily have been changed in the adaptation.
Therefore, the first glimpse of the Unluckies in Little Garden shows how the live-action adaptation strives to be faithful to the source material, which is a positive sign that the adaptation will also include Karoo despite his challenging design.
Why Including Karoo in One Piece Season 2 Could Go Wrong

Although the fact that Karoo is a character who serves as comic relief makes it more difficult to include him in live action without him seeming too goofy and out of place, the fact that he also serves as a swift steed on many occasions further complicates matters. This means the live-action adaptation needs to find the right balance with Karoo.
However, the global popularity of One Piece's live-action series guarantees an even bigger production than its first season, so the show could have the necessary resources to adapt Karoo. Even with the Unluckies, it's clear that One Piece Season 2 respected the animals' real appearance, so a less cartoonish design for Karoo could be expected.

Karoo's first appearance is in the Whisky Peak arc, and it's possible that One Piece Season 2 wants to pleasantly surprise fans with his design. One Piece Season 3 is set to release on Netflix on March 10, 2026, so fans won't have to wait that long to see what Karoo looks like in real life.
